Junk DNA and Creationist Predictions

Posted on Mar 11, 2011 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

As much as 98% of the DNA molecule has been labeled “junk.” It was thought to have no function and thus, that mutations could accumulate there without being “weeded out” by natural selection. However, research is rapidly showing functionality for the so-called “junk DNA.” Even Francis Collins, long-term DNA researcher who just a few years ago thought that non-coding areas of DNA were non-functional, is now recognizing complex functions taking place in the areas previously...

The Eight-Legged Flashlight

Posted on Mar 11, 2011 in Articles | 0 comments

Certainly Stauroteuthis syrtensis, a little baseball-sized octopus, takes first place in the talent show of intelligent design.  It is the first of its kind to be found in the ocean depths flaunting glow-in-the-dark legs. This particular octopus has bioluminescent organs, similar to suckers that emit an eerie blue-green glow to attract its dinner.  Sea creatures living above it have a diet that includes an abundance of light-generating microbes.  These become luminescent as...

Raising Up Faithful Men to Preach

Posted on Mar 9, 2011 in Stepaneks from the Front | 0 comments

This was my fourth time to travel to India teaching creation.  The spiritual hunger I observed was  greater than all previous trips.  Many have been taught evolution and have compromised Scripture with this philosophy.  Once they realize the fallacies of evolution, and Genesis is true history, a burden was lifted and you could see the joy arise in their faces.  Many truly understood the importance of this message and some are eager to teach this message to others.  We are...

Treadmills, DVDs, and Friends

Posted on Mar 8, 2011 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

While exercising on my treadmill this morning, I enjoyed watching a DVD called “Creation the Facts of Life” by Dr. Gary Parker. This multitasking makes the time go faster and gives me an opportunity to meet new friends or touch bases with people I haven’t seen in awhile. It was fun to spend the time with Dr. Parker today. Dr. Parker was one of my professors/mentors while attending the ICR Graduate School. His unique teaching style and ability to see relationships between...

“,But the LORD directs his steps.”

Posted on Mar 4, 2011 in Stepaneks from the Front | 0 comments

I would like to praise the LORD for His faithfulness in my recent trip to India.  He provided abundantly in so many different areas.   I am thankful for the provision of finances to allow me the opportunity to minister to the Indian people.  God was also faithful in providing safety while traveling to seven different cities in one month, good health throughout the trip, and the strength to endure a very rigorous schedule.      It was a joy to see how God worked even through...

Male Praying Mantis: Plight or Passion?

Posted on Mar 4, 2011 in Articles | 0 comments

Personally, praying mantises give me the “creeps.”  I am not like a friend of mine who, as a child, kept a praying mantis named, “Barbara” in his bedroom.  To me, there has always been something sinister and austere about them.  After reading about their reproductive habits, I had more reason to feel this way. As a part of the mating process, the male praying mantis is actually eaten by the female!  If a male is lucky, the female will wait until during or after the ritual...

Are You Hungry?

At a recent staff meeting, I was blessed to hear Rich Stepanek’s report on his latest trip to India. As often happens on international trips, Rich found a refreshing hunger to learn about creation and how it relates to the gospel message, and a welcome eagerness to sit and listen for many hours on end. (I think it’s going to be hard for him to come back to the “reality” here in the States – rigid time constraints and the busyness that tugs and pulls on people’s willingness...

Hummingbird Spy Planes

Posted on Mar 2, 2011 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I thoroughly enjoy hummingbirds and dragonflies. They are certainly marvels of creation. However, there may come a time when people will start shooting them. The Associated Press (2/28/2011) just had an article about new research with working models of tiny spy planes that mimic birds and insects. The hummingbird “drone” can fly forward and backwards, up and down, sideways, and rotate. However, unlike the real thing, it is loaded with video and audio equipment to record...

A Powerful Tool

After a seminar, a girl came forward who was obviously struggling.  She was a foreign exchange student from Germany who professed to be an atheist.  As she talked with Rich Stepanek, she confided, “One of my friends went to America, and came back a Christian.  I promised myself that wouldn’t happen to me.”  After Rich and the pastor shared with her for over an hour however, she prayed to receive Christ as her Savior! For seven months her host family had been witnessing to...

Oh Yes! We Remember THAT Camp!

Posted on Feb 25, 2011 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

I was asked if we remembered “that camp” mentioned in my last blog where we spoke 25 years ago? How could we forget?  It has been permanently seared into our minds! We conducted a kid’s program from 9 AM to 9 PM for the entire week! It was about 100-104 degrees in Texas with about the same humidity—and it was outdoors! (Perhaps that is why we began doing family camps in the cool Colorado Mountains?) We did arts, crafts, slide programs, and tried not to go crazy with a large...

“25 Years Ago You Spoke . . .”

Posted on Feb 23, 2011 in Nuttings from the Front | 0 comments

Last week I received a phone call from a man who had attended a camp where we had spoken almost 25 years ago!  He was 13 or 14 at that time, but has been out of touch with us since. He had recently found us on our website. The creation message has been important to him all these years. Sometimes we don’t hear from people at all as to how the message has impacted them until many years later.  Usually it is because we returned to an area and are approached by someone,...

BUT GOD YOU PROMISED!

Posted on Feb 17, 2011 in Johnsons from the Front | 0 comments

Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebekah.  Grandpa Abraham had been promised many offspring, but after several years of marriage, Rebecca had still not conceived.  I imagine that Isaac was saying, “But God you promised!”  He probably wondered if he should have married sooner or have had more faith. Who knows his doubts?  Gen. 25:21 says Isaac pleaded with the Lord and Rebekah conceived.  Prayer answered … smooth sailing … NOT! Verse 22 says the twin babies...
