Several years ago, I heard an atheistic, evolutionary university professor comment, “I wouldn’t know truth if it stared me in the face.” Unfortunately, that statement was probably more “true” for him than he realized.
It seems that today there is a real “famine” of truth in our society. We are continually bombarded with “information,” but how much of it is real, solid truth? Outright deception and lies abound. In addition, bits and pieces of “truth” are mixed with opinion, ideas, or speculations. One atheistic website even went so far as to say that deception is valuable.
But basing your life on deception or even “half-truths” is like building your house on sand. How can you stand if your foundation is not sure? What good is “scientific research” or medical advice if it is based on untruth? What good are people’s opinions and speculations about life? The truth is, we all need to know the truth, but where do we find it in our information-soaked age?
Jesus said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31b-32) We find truth by continuing in His Word – studying, meditating, believing, and acting on it — building our lives on the firm foundation, the solid rock of Scripture. And as we continue in His Word, we find that the truth of Scripture leads us to the TRUTH Himself – Jesus, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life! (John 14:6)
So where are you today? Do you know truth? More importantly, do you know the Truth? Don’t be like the evolutionary professor who said, “I wouldn’t know truth if it stared me in the face,” or like Pilate who asked, “What is truth?” when Jesus, the very embodiment of Truth, was standing right in front of him!
Seek Him with all your heart you will find. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
