IFCA National Convention

Teaching 18 hours at IFCA

Recently, Sue and I presented a children’s creation program for the IFCA International Pastor’s Convention at Ft. Mitchell, KY.  We had about 40 children, which was more than we were expecting.  We were scheduled to teach them for 18 hours.  It was definitely a challenge.  We had never presented a children’s program for 18 hours before!

With Dr. Lofquist, Director of the IFCA

God is so good!  With Sue’s planning and organizational skills, and God’s strength and guidance, the ministry was a success.  Along with the children’s program, I had the opportunity to teach four and a half hours to the adults.  The creation message was very well received.  Many of the pastors have a great desire for this information to be taught in their churches. We thank, and pray for, our many donors that make teaching like that possible.

Discover Creation Family Adventures

Creation Teaching at Redcloud

These last two weeks, we have been conducting Discover Creation family camps at Camp Redcloud. They are being extremely well received. This is actually our 25th year of doing family camps at Redcloud.

Our creation camps have been noted for solid Creation vs. Evolution sessions and Genesis teaching for both children and adults, as well as a complete family vacation. We usually teach each morning and evening. Some times the children are in the main sessions while at other times, they have their own sessions with our staff.

The evening teaching/worship is usually finished by 8:45 PM. Lately, Richard Stepanek has offered an optional time between 9 and 10 PM for his in-depth series of teachings on Genesis. Most of the camp participants have been attending these and are really enjoying that extra teaching. Discussions sometimes last quite a bit after that. The people have been so hungry to learn the truth!

The afternoons (and one full day during the week) are for families to really have a relationship building experience comparable to, and even better than, many dude ranches. These tremendous recreational activities, gourmet meals, praise and worship time, and teen activities really round out the time to make what many of the participants say is “the best vacation ever.”

Here are a few snapshots of the Creation Vacation experience. If you want this wonderful vacation for your family, call our office to get a brochure, and plan on coming next year! (970-523-9943 or 1-800-377-1923)

Running From the Storm

A little over a week ago we completed a family Vacation Bible School in a small rural South Dakota town. It was a small church with only about 14 children and an average of 20 adults attending. About half of the children were non-churched kids who attend the church’s Awana program during the school year. It was a blessing to see 4 of the VBS kids make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ.

Head for the basement...

On the last day of the family Vacation Bible School, we were ten minutes away from ending, when a lady rushed into the sanctuary and began whispering to some of the adults in attendance. Several of the adults jumped up and ran out the front doors. I could see all of them turning to the south, looking at the sky, and frantically calling on their cell phones. Within minutes they were back inside, announcing that we all needed to head to the basement.  There was a huge thunderstorm approaching, with possible tornadoes, and it was only minutes away from town.

We quickly unplugged all the electronics and headed for the basement.  This small town had been almost completely wiped out by a tornado in 1944, so the people were not taking any chances. In fact, the church we were in had been rebuilt in its present location after the original church had been destroyed in that terrible storm. God protected us that day, and the main part of the storm skirted around the town.

This is not the first time Marilyn and I have had to take shelter in church basements because of Midwest thunderstorms. A little over a year ago, we had scurried through ferocious winds to the shelter of a basement in a Nebraska country church. Even though church basements do offer some protection from storms, they are not failsafe. They can still collapse causing destruction and death.

I am reminded that our true comfort and shelter comes not from a building, but from the Lord. “ … The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.” (2 Samuel 22:2-3). In God we can find true peace and calm, even in the midst of a storm.

Answers to Hidden Books of the Bible Puzzle

There are 29 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them?

This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it, she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That’s a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, “The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight.” Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus; there really are 29 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found. God Bless.

Think About the Human Brain

I am amazed at how many people would quickly say that the presidential heads of Mount Rushmore were well designed and crafted by a master designer and yet turn around and look at human heads and say that they are the product of millions of years of evolutionary accidents. The rock heads don’t think. They have no brain! Yet the human heads have brains (and sometimes think!).

It just doesn’t compute. How can anyone believe the human brain is a product of evolution? It is much more sophisticated than our best computers. It is faster, more compact, and can multi-task much more efficiently than even IBM’s supercomputer that is used in our country’s defense department. Even IBM said that their computer wouldn’t come close to what the human brain can do.

Think about it! 12 billion cells, 100 trillion connections, better than our best, well-designed computers! We need to turn off the stony blind acceptance of evolution and really think. Is it reasonable and rational to believe the human head and even more so, the human brain, is the product of blind chance? Even throwing in the outdated and demonstrably weak hypothesis of mutations (mistakes) coupled with natural selection won’t salvage this for evolution.

29 Hidden Books of the Bible

I came across this puzzle on Creation Moments. I have done this in the past and enjoyed it (I’m a puzzle geek). The following paragraph has 29 hidden names of Bible books. How many can you find? To get you started, the first book of the Bible is underlined and highlighted in red. If you can’t get them all or if you want to check your answers, watch for my next blog with the answers. It might help to print the paragraph so you can underline the books as you find them.
