Oh Yes! We Remember THAT Camp!

I was asked if we remembered “that camp” mentioned in my last blog where we spoke 25 years ago? How could we forget?  It has been permanently seared into our minds! We conducted a kid’s program from 9 AM to 9 PM for the entire week! It was about 100-104 degrees in Texas with about the same humidity—and it was outdoors! (Perhaps that is why we began doing family camps in the cool Colorado Mountains?)

We did arts, crafts, slide programs, and tried not to go crazy with a large group of kids on such a blistery hot summer week. This would have been a great place to find out if you could actually fry an egg on a sidewalk, but we had our hands full with being thrust into children’s ministry so early in our ministry without training.

One very small girl kept wandering off from the group. Whenever we would try to bring her back in or keep her in line, she would look really sad and pout, “But my cat died.” After several times we finally figured out this didn’t happen just recently, but many moons ago! Kids are fun, but I wonder if she is still using that line today after 25 years?

Fortunately that camp and scorching heat didn’t completely fry our brains (contrary to what some university skeptics may think!). Now we have children’s ministry teams that go with us to do the kid’s program. However, we don’t wish to send new volunteers out without some training!

Pizza With a Passion and Purpose

Last week we met a married couple in Texas that had moved from Colorado. They had retired to a small ranch near Buena Vista, Colorado, setting the ranch up as a getaway for pastors and spouses to relax, and recuperate from the demands of ministry. This went well; however, the couple felt a burning desire to share their faith beyond the confines of the ranch.

Leaving the ranch, they moved to Texas, and took a big step of faith. They opened a pizza restaurant, which they dedicated to God as an outreach for the gospel. They named the restaurant “AJ’s Pizza Shoppe” … A (lways) J (esus). Their motto: “Serving Others With Passion And Purpose”.

In the short time we were there, I witnessed the wife speaking to several people, sharing with them how God had blessed them and sharing her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. What a bold testimony! Not only are they serving up physical nourishment, but spiritual nourishment as well.

The wife shared that a relative had given them the large wide-screen television on the wall. She said their intent was not to show the secular “garbage” that was on the airways, but to show Christian based videos for the customers to watch while they waited for or ate their meals. To help her get started, we donated the Discover Creation Children’s Adventure DVD’s. She was tickled.

Some might say people won’t go to a “religious” store. But they would be wrong … the place was very busy, and in the few short months AJ’s has been in business, they have already won the Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year Award.

It is great to be fed in more ways than one!

“25 Years Ago You Spoke . . .”

Last week I received a phone call from a man who had attended a camp where we had spoken almost 25 years ago!  He was 13 or 14 at that time, but has been out of touch with us since. He had recently found us on our website. The creation message has been important to him all these years.

Sometimes we don’t hear from people at all as to how the message has impacted them until many years later.  Usually it is because we returned to an area and are approached by someone, “Remember me? I was that skeptic . . . .”  Sometimes a pastor might say, “Remember that atheist who badgered you?”

This time, this young man wasn’t a skeptic but took everything in and even helped in the camp. The creation message stuck with him all of those years to the point that he is now frequenting creation sites and found us once again. We are thankful he had gotten a firm foundation on which to build his faith and is now passing that on to his teenage children. We hope he will be able to bring his family to our Redcloud Creation Mountain Adventure this summer to help fortify the next generation.

It is great to hear from those who have been impacted by the message and we wonder how many more are out there that have not been in touch with us! Is that you who is reading this?

Marilyn – the Apprentice Plumber

Marilyn shared in her blog, “But God You Promised,” about a new camper God has blessed us with through the generous giving of a supporting family. The newer camper (1997) is replacing an older (1986) motorhome we have used for many years of travelling in this ministry.

However - age, wear, and lack of fuel economy have made the motorhome unaffordable to travel with on long tours. Earlier last year, we were able to buy a used diesel pickup with the pulling power and fuel economy for a trailer, so the gift of the trailer has truly been an answered prayer.

The gift has not been without some minor predicaments. As with anything you buy used, you can expect some problems to occur. It was too cold in Grand Junction to test the water system for fear of the pipes freezing. We decided to “dry camp” for the first few days of our ministry trip as we headed towards Texas.

In New Mexico, I filled the water lines and discovered that the previous owner had done a poor job of blowing out the water lines. We had several pipes broken in a very hard to get to area of the trailer. I would get one section fixed and another leak would show up.

A few of the pipes were in an area that had such a small access hole that I could not get to because of my size. Marilyn was able to barely squeeze in with her head and one arm to reach the offending leaks. By my talking her through the process, she was able to one-handedly cut the broken pipes, and glue on the new fittings and pipe.

After two days of travel, and working on water lines at rest stops, we had water! God had answered another prayer … we had prayed for the ability to make the repairs. Granted!

Please pray for us as we travel on down the road and fix any new problems that are bound to come our way just so God can show His power!

BUT GOD YOU PROMISED!

Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebekah.  Grandpa Abraham had been promised many offspring, but after several years of marriage, Rebecca had still not conceived.  I imagine that Isaac was saying, “But God you promised!”  He probably wondered if he should have married sooner or have had more faith. Who knows his doubts?  Gen. 25:21 says Isaac pleaded with the Lord and Rebekah conceived.  Prayer answered … smooth sailing … NOT! Verse 22 says the twin babies Rebekah was carrying struggled within her and she asked “If all is well, why am I like this?”

Life produces many situations for similar confusion.  You pray for something, God gives it to you, and then it isn’t always smooth sailing.  We had been praying for a trailer to help us with our ministry.  God answered that prayer request in a BIG way.  We were over the moon, yet the first week on the road was one challenge after another.  You ask yourself - Lord did I make the wrong decision about which trailer to buy?  We were sure that this is the one you told us to buy….then why are we having so many problems?

Beth Moore in her book “The Patriarchs” says:  “Somehow we never grow accustomed to the idea that pain and difficulties are part of the human experience.  God is not going to exempt His children from life’s difficulty. Rather, he highlights those very challenges to prove our faith is genuine.  We have an infinite advantage over unbelievers, however, even in the here-and-now of our earthly experience. Our difficulties are filled with meaning and far-reaching effects, leaving warm blessing on our earthly journey.”

Rebekah and Isaac could have had a child the first year they were married … but would they have seen God’s hand in it? Rebekah could have had a smooth pregnancy … but they would have missed the message that she was carrying two nations that would be at war with each other.

We are in a spiritual war.  Satan really does not like the work that Alpha Omega is doing and has thrown many a trial our way.  We have learned that this only means that it is going to be a great trip spiritually and that God will provide a way for us.

You Shall Know the Truth

Do You Know The Truth?

Several years ago, I heard an atheistic, evolutionary university professor comment, “I wouldn’t know truth if it stared me in the face.” Unfortunately, that statement was probably more “true” for him than he realized.

It seems that today there is a real “famine” of truth in our society. We are continually bombarded with “information,” but how much of it is real, solid truth? Outright deception and lies abound. In addition, bits and pieces of “truth” are mixed with opinion, ideas, or speculations. One atheistic website even went so far as to say that deception is valuable.

But basing your life on deception or even “half-truths” is like building your house on sand. How can you stand if your foundation is not sure? What good is “scientific research” or medical advice if it is based on untruth? What good are people’s opinions and speculations about life? The truth is, we all need to know the truth, but where do we find it in our information-soaked age?

Jesus said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31b-32) We find truth by continuing in His Word – studying, meditating, believing, and acting on it — building our lives on the firm foundation, the solid rock of Scripture. And as we continue in His Word, we find that the truth of Scripture leads us to the TRUTH Himself – Jesus, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life! (John 14:6)

So where are you today? Do you know truth? More importantly, do you know the Truth? Don’t be like the evolutionary professor who said, “I wouldn’t know truth if it stared me in the face,” or like Pilate who asked, “What is truth?” when Jesus, the very embodiment of Truth, was standing right in front of him!

Seek Him with all your heart you will find. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

Creation Centers

On the way back from our speaking trip in Texas, Mary Jo & I had the pleasure of stopping by two Creation centers.

The Discovery Center in Abilene is run by Tommy and Caroline Walden. They are very energetic people with a real passion for creation. A popular exhibit is their talking robot. The Center has some fossils and various creation displays. An exhibit they are developing features material donated relating to the Titanic. Their message will be comparing it to Noah’s Ark.

The second one we visited on this trip was Joe Taylor’s Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum at Crosbyton.  Joe is an artist and avid fossil preparer. He has excavated quite a few dinosaurs and mammoths along with many other animals. There are a huge number of fossils in this museum. Joe was gracious enough to give Mary Jo & I a tour of his museum. Many of the fossils directly relate to the Flood and other catastrophic events.

We are very happy to see these types of creation centers becoming available to travelers who get exhausted with hearing nothing but long age evolutionary explanations at other museums. So if you take a trip, search out what potential creation sites may be available in route. It will be good for you and your family.

“I Wish I Had Heard”

Last night I was able to share with a group of adults about the Origin of Man. This talk takes a look at the lack of evidence, mistakes, and misinterpretations regarding the evolutionary origins of man. I was also able to share a brief look at the problems with the dating methods being used today.

After the talk, one young man approached me and said, “I sure wish I had heard this information before I went to college!” He shared that he had a degree in micro-biology, and had been required to take several classes on evolution.

I asked him if he had begun to believe in evolution because of what he was taught in college. He said no, he has a strong Christian background with strong Christian parents (Praise the Lord). He said his problem was that he was vocal about his belief in God as the Creator, but didn’t have enough information to refute what was being taught. He said the information, I had just presented, would have helped him to be a much better witness to his professors and classmates.

Many times in my life I also have wished that I had heard the information that we teach at AOI when I was young. Maybe if I had heard the truth, I would not have fallen away from God and been an atheist for over 20 years because of evolutionary teachings.

Not In Our School!

Students hearing the truth at FCA

Several weeks ago, I was invited to speak to a group of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at a charter Middle/High school. Because FCA is considered a club, we were able to meet in the classroom of a Christian teacher before school started.

One of the student leaders had repeatedly requested admission for me to teach in the school, but her request was denied by the school administration. We have seen this happen a lot in the past. The excuse that is almost always given is evolution is science and Creation is religion; therefore, because of the so-called “separation of church and state,” we are not allowed to teach within the school.

I assure the administration that I will not speak of Creation at all – I will only giving evidence against evolution. Yet we are still denied. When asked why the denial, I was once told, “If you show what is wrong with evolution, and a student then asks you what do you believe in, then you are legally able to tell them, and we don’t want to go there.”

Teaching on the "Icons of Evolution"

Since I couldn’t get into the school, I shared with the 30 students and 2 teachers of FCA a talk on the Icons of Evolution. These icons (so called “proofs”) of evolution have been shown to be wrong many years ago … so why are they still being taught as truth in many textbooks today? Most of the students agreed that some of these “proofs” were in their books.

I had several thank us for opening their eyes to some of the falsehoods they are being taught. I pray the small seed of truth we were allowed to teach will make them more aware of the many other false teachings of evolution.

Ice Storms and Travel

Braving the storm

With all of the travel we do for speaking, we are extremely grateful for safety on the road. Sometimes we are even more grateful. The other day we woke up to snow on the ground with blowing snow and ice freezing our car doors shut and road conditions which closed the schools.

As much as we would have liked to huddle inside our host’s nicely warmed home and sip on hot tea, there loomed ahead a pressing need to brave the storm and travel to the next speaking location.

The highways for more than half the trek were solid ice and slow travel, but God once again held us on the road and kept other cars away from us. Right now we are thankful to have arrived at our next destination – warm and dry! For those of you who pray for our travels, thank you!
