Meditation in Song

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head and find yourself singing it over and over again? It can be really annoying if it’s some dumb advertising ditty, but at times, I find it is a way in which God speaks to me. I remember a time several years ago when I was standing in line in an office supply store.

As usual, I was in a hurry – and the line was oh so long and the service soooooo slow and I was getting really frustrated and impatient. After awhile I noticed I had a song running through my head. Finally I stopped to listen to the words:  “The reason I live, is to worship you.” Whoa! God got my attention! If the reason I live is to worship HIM, then I can do that anywhere – even standing in line in an office supply store.

That really changed my perspective. However, in the bustle and busyness of life, I find I often need a “refresher” course – and God is faithful to give it. We usually start Training Week days with music to help focus our hearts and minds on the Lord, so now I have a phrase stuck in my mind from one of the songs: “Lord, I exist to worship you.” Now that’s pretty deep theology, but oh, so practical. God made us for a purpose – to know and love and glorify Him. We exist to worship Him – anytime, anywhere.

Vacation Travel Helps Kids Achieve

For years, we have called our Creation Family Mountain Adventures, “Vacations With a Purpose.” We designed them to be times of family fun and learning together in God’s great creation. Now we have further “fuel” for our thinking.

“According to a press release … from VacationBetter.org, ‘Analysis of a U.S. Department of Education study found that children who travel over summer break … did better in reading, math, and general knowledge than their peers who didn’t vacation.’  … The results revealed a significant difference in academic achievement correlated with taking a family summer vacation trip.” (From Practical Homeschooling April/May/June 2010)

So, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or friends — give your kids a “boost.” Bring them to an AOI Creation Family Mountain Adventure this summer. Dynamic creation teaching, exciting recreational activities, great food, family fun, new friends … and maybe even better grades in school … (and moms, wouldn’t you love a week off from cooking?)  Check it out at: www.discovercreation.org/vacations.htm.  Hope to see you in the beautiful mountains of Colorado this summer!

IFCA National Youth Convention

What a busy week!  Just a recap – over 350 youth and adults from around the nation were there for Bible quizzing, music events, practice preaching, sports activities, and to learn about commitment in their Christian lives.  The goal was to equip and encourage youth to use their gifts in their local churches when they return home.

I taught anywhere from two to five sessions a day.  I delivered the morning message for the entire group, lessons from Genesis chapters 1-3, taught break-out sessions in the afternoon, and finally an evening session at 9 pm.  I ended up teaching 17 different sessions over the course of the five day conference.

In addition to the formal scheduled teaching, there were also many hours of answering questions and one on one conversations.  The attendance was fantastic, and it is encouraging to see the enthusiasm of the youth to know Biblical truth.

Arguing With God

Does God have a sense of humor? I think so. When I see what God has me doing today, it makes me smile. He was able to take me, at the age of 40, an evolutionary atheist, and change my whole life. Of course, that is what God is in the business of doing … changing lives. Once His truth was revealed to me, I truly did become a new creature.

Yet this change was not without some grumbling. I really did not expect God to call me into full time ministry. It was something I certainly didn’t want. I mean really … sell my business, work with kids, and live by faith? How was I going to take care of my family? What about that big new boat I had my eye on? As I struggled with His calling, I began to feel guilty that I was even arguing with God.

Yet, greater men than I have also been called to do the unexpected, and they too made excuses. Moses was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Jonah fought God on taking a message to Nineveh. Paul was persecuting Christians when he was called. Just as these men finally answered God’s call, I too submitted to the will of my Lord. “Luckily” I didn’t have to be temporarily blinded or swallowed by a great fish to finally obey.

Over the last 18 years with AOI, I have come to know that I have the best “job” I have ever had. To see hundreds of lives changed from hearing the Creation and Gospel message has been a blessing beyond the power of description. I really am glad God won the argument! It makes me smile.

Creation Training

We are excited! A new batch of trainees are here for this week’s Creation Teaching Training Session. We have already heard that some have a heart for children, some for adults, a couple college age students want to reach high school and college students, and another has an intense interest to reach Latinos. These are small groups, so it gives us more time to help jump-start them to reach their goals.

Since I have gotten grayer (prematurely), it blesses me to see younger blood coming along to carry the torch and spread the message! Please pray for the success and long range eternal fruit of this training session. If you, too, see the importance of the creation ministry and want training, please email AOI@DiscoverCreation.org for information.
